H  Agia  Sophia

Or the Holy Wisdom....

This magnificient temple built in the 4th century strikes you with the immense feeling of void as soon as you enter into it.  Since it has not been used as a mosque for the last three decades the interior is absented by carpets.  Therefore the sound is not absorbed and swallowed.  On the contrary, stone and marble play with it as they like; emphasizing the effect of emptiness.

On the right side of the painting  an Ottoman fountain dwells which proves –as many others do- the symbiosis of two cultures.  Built by Sultan Ahmet III on 1728 it is covered by beatiful tiles and  decorated by inscriptions from Kuran.
